6pm: Wet and Needle Felting with Kendra Keller

Felt, a non-woven fabric made of wool, is one of humanity’s oldest textiles. Warm, cozy, fluffy, and colorful, wool is a perfect medium to get your hands into as the weather chills.

Wet felting is the traditional method of making felt with soap, water, and your hands. Needle felting is a modern method employing specialized needles. Both methods can be used for making flat or sculptural works and compliment each other; you can wet felt what you’ve needle felted for a fine finish, and you can needle felt what you’ve wet felted for embellishment. In these workshops, Kendra Keller will demonstrate basic techniques, provide support as needed, and generally share an enthusiasm for all things fiber art and textiles. Ideally, you will have a chance to make at least one small ornament (although we all work at different speeds) and go home with the skills to pursue felt-making further.

The needle felting workshop is best suited to people who can be mindful working with sharp needles that can pierce skin (like a sewing needle, but a bit more painfully). The wet felting workshop is suitable for anyone who can be careful to keep soapy water on hands away from eyes. Open to beginners and experienced felters alike.
