Cotton Candy

This is Cotton Candy, and he is as sweet as he sounds! Cotton Candy is an amazing breakdancer who loves to draw, watercolor, model with clay, and play in our playground. He has no fear of an audience when he’s dancing, but he says, “I’m also shy.” Being kind is very important to him, and he’s very considerate about greeting and saying goodbye to students and staff at school. He says, “I’m also a handy man because I hold doors for people, with my hands.” He’s made a lot of good friends at school but he’s also really good at being on his own. And when I asked him what it’s like being one of the youngest students at school, he answered, “no comment.”

Cotton Candy happens to be our in-house photographer’s favorite person to photograph (and he likes to be photographed too). She says that, even when he was three or four years old, he would slowly enter the background of photographs she was taking and strike epic poses. When asked if he had any tricks up his sleeve, he said, “I like bending myself mostly,” as he contorted his body in the chair he was sitting in. But he quickly jumped up and said, “also standing in the cold, even when it’s very cold, I can do that for like one minute.” And he slipped outside and stood by the window where we were sitting to demonstrate ice-man abilities.

It wasn’t too long ago that Cotton Candy had a lot of wild energy, but he’s really evened out since he enrolled this year (although he can still make the highest screech we’ve ever heard). He credits meditation with this development. He says, “meditation makes me stay more focused. The more you meditate, the more you can get more calm. And somehow I know a lot of yoga. Yoga is a lot like stretching, it’s really healthy for your body.” Aww Cotton Candy, you are one cool guy, and we are so happy you’re here and we get to hang with you every day. We think it’s pretty cool and unusual that you think so much about being kind and bending your body and being chill, and we’re so grateful we get to grow up with you!!!
